It all begins with our Pre-Qualification Quiz. This quick step helps us determine whether you may be eligible for insurance coverage.
If you qualify based on your quiz results, we’ll send you an Insurance Intake Form to gather the details we need to contact your provider for pre-approval.
Once pre-approval is confirmed and insurance coverage amount is verified with your provider, we’ll schedule your personalized consultation to review your goals & hair preferences.
After your hair solution is confirmed, you’ll choose your preferred payment option.
Once full payment is received, we will begin processing your hair solution (& schedule delivery day!)
We will work with your insurance company to ensure you receive your reimbursement check for your hair solution based on prior pre-approval coverage amount.
We offer two simple paths:
Pay upfront – You cover the full cost, and we’ll handle the documentation so you can submit for reimbursement from your provider.
Pay a retainer – You’ll pay a retainer to begin the process. When your insurance provider issues the reimbursement check, it will be sent directly to you. At that point, you’ll use the reimbursement to pay the remaining balance to us & continue the process to receive your hair solution.
Either way, our team manages the paperwork and communication with your insurance provider.
Upfront payment: Most clients receive their solution within 2–3 weeks.
Retainer option: Processing usually takes 6–8 weeks, since insurance providers release reimbursement checks on their own schedule. Once you receive the reimbursement and pay the remaining balance, we can complete the process.
Yes! Every client receives a fully personalized solution, including color, length, and texture.
Your care kit will guide you through maintenance! You’ll have access to video tutorials and resources to help your solution last as long as possible.
Each delivery includes your custom solution plus a care kit, featuring:
A personalized care card
A QR code linking to step-by-step hair care video tutorials
All sales are final for insurance-reimbursable hair solutions. Because insurance cannot reimburse cranial prosthesis, we are unable to accept returns or issue refunds once an order has been placed.
Yes. Many insurance providers classify medical wigs (also called cranial prostheses) as durable medical equipment or medically necessary. Coverage varies by plan, but we specialize in navigating the process and maximizing your benefits.
Providers also require a doctor’s prescription. As part of our intake process, we’ll guide you through what’s needed and even provide your doctor with the correct language to ensure your claim is processed smoothly.
Most wig retailers sell cosmetic wigs that are not eligible for insurance coverage.
The Follicle Project provides cranial prostheses designed for insurance reimbursement, paired with white-glove support for pre-approvals, paperwork, and reimbursement filing.
We focus on restoring dignity and identity, not just providing a product.
Our team is certified as Cranial Prosthesis Specialists through Wig Medical, a nationally recognized training program (certificates shown in the About Us section). This certification ensures we understand the medical, technical, and emotional aspects of hair loss solutions, including insurance processes.
The Follicle Project also maintains a National Provider Identifier (NPI), which allows us to work directly with insurance providers. While we currently support clients through reimbursement and deposit options, we are actively working to become an in-network provider with major insurance companies to make the process even smoother for our clients.
